While recent think tank growth has been nothing short of explosive, the relationship between these organizations and the policy making process is often misunderstood.
This panel event, hosted as part of the Think Tank Launch Events, is meant to raise awareness of how think tanks influence and effect policy makers and the public at large.
Chair: Dr Eamonn Butler, Director of the Adam Smith Institute
Stephanie Lis, Communications Director at the Institute of Economic Affairs
John O’Connell, Chief Operating Officer at The Taxpayers’ Alliance
Stian Westlake, Executive Director of Policy and Research at Nesta
This event will be one of dozens held across the world on the 27th and 28th of January to mark the launch of the University of Pennsylvania’s 2015 .
Since its inception in 2006, the Index has developed an understanding of the role think tanks play in governments and civil societies. The report has become the most comprehensive ranking of the world’s top think tanks, and is a gold standard often cited by governments, donors, journals, academics and policy makers.
The index incorporates a number of categories, such as a worldwide ranking of the Top Domestic Economic Policy Think Tanks (in last year’s report the Adam Smith Institute came 3rd), Outstanding Policy Programmes (in which we came 12th), and the Best Use of Social Networks (in which we came 17th).
